Found an article in the NY Times yesterday about artificial hearts – yes, a French company believes it can get these on the market viably.

Supposedly, artificial valves have been used successfully to replace failed/damages ones in patients with heart diseases.  However, a whole new heart?  One that is synthesized in a lab from pig cells? I can’t really tell if i am excited about this, or not – horrified, or something else.

These artificial organs would bypass the problem of organ transplant waiting lists, but would these synthetic organs be accepted by the body?
